“And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.”
If God spoke the universe into being,
And we are made in God’s image,
Then we speak our experience of the universe into being.
So new agers, like Harry Palmer, who tell us that we see what we believe, and grannies who warn us to be careful what we wish for, and friends who tell us not to be so negative are alluding to the fact that we create with words. For example . . .
A guy goes to a remote island on vacation. He bitches about there not being quarter-pounders for him to gobble and donuts to dunk . “This sux,” he says. He has created a rotten experience.
Another person goes to the same island and marvels at the unusual cuisine. She has a fun time tasting fresh mango and grilled sardines. “This rocks,” she says. She has created an awesome experience.
I think the key point here is to be mindful of the fact that we were created in God’s image and to be aware of the implications and consequences of that. I think.
