This was in the newspaper:
“More Pennsylvanians checked off ‘unmarried partner’ under relationship status in the 2010 Census. Households headed by married couples no long make up the majority of households in the state, mirroring a national trend. More households are headed by unmarried partners and the number of households led by same-sex couples is rising.”
Those facts shocked me. So, I tried to talk myself out of the shock: “Things have changed. Don’t be so old fashioned. The typical family of the past (Mother, Father, Dick, Jane, Sally, Puff and Spot) is now atypical. Get over it.”
I can’t “get over it.” It’s written on my heart, something’s wrong when the basic family unit is crumbling.
